The school was established in March 1974 and is the only folk high school in Norway where sign language is the main language used in teaching and everyday life.

Ål Folkehøgskole is a foundation established by the Norwegian Association of the Deaf.

Facilities

Operations: Includes maintenance, teaching, cleaning, kitchen operations.

Capacity: 46 student places, including short courses.

Area: 200 acres with 26 buildings on the Bakketeigen farm in Ål, Hallingdal.

AN INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY - ON DEAF PREMISES

We include everyone with hearing challenges: deaf, hard of hearing and people with hearing impairment, with or without a cochlear implant or hearing aid.
Teaching and everyday life are adapted to the life world of deaf people – and this also applies to hearing students and employees.
Our goal is to be a center for lifelong learning, adapted to the needs of the deaf community.

Event rentals

Are you planning an upcoming camp, event, course, conference or similar gathering?

We are pleased to offer rental of our school and its excellent facilities for both small and large groups, with or without accommodation. Between mid-May and mid-August we have excellent opportunities to rent out the entire school or specific areas, and we welcome enquiries all year round. Would you like to arrange a visit or tour? We are more than happy to arrange it for you!
