You’ve probably seen sign language in movies, series and programs on TV, in social media or outside? Does it look exciting?
Here you can learn sign language fluently! We use sign language around the clock. You get to meet other students who are also interested in learning sign language or who already know sign language.
Sign language is an exciting visual language that you will enjoy for the rest of your life and can open many new doors for you!
It doesn’t matter if you’re hearing or hearing impaired, we give everyone the same opportunities to use and learn sign language.

Claudia Murray

Manager

Claudia is a sign language teacher with broad educational expertise. She has teacher training from Switzerland, and good knowledge of several sign languages. She is fluent in Swiss, German, Norwegian sign language, American Sign Language (ASL) and international signs. Previously, she has worked in the school’s course department, head of the school house, in kindergarten, and adult education. Claudia is passionate about students and social pedagogical work.

FAQ

Who is the line suitable for?

The program is suitable for those who are curious about Norwegian sign language and want to become confident in using sign language. You do not need to already know sign language. Whether you are a complete beginner or have some experience, you are very welcome! It doesn’t matter if you are hearing or hearing impaired. With us, everyone has equal opportunities to learn, use and develop sign language.

This is what you will learn

You will receive training in Norwegian sign language and learn to communicate confidently in different situations around the clock. We’ll work on grammar, reading and discussion techniques, while you develop your communication skills. You’ll also learn about deaf history, culture and society, and gain a deeper understanding of visual language and its importance.

Price for the school year:

The school year costs NOK 130,000.

Loans and grants:

You can receive up to NOK 151,700 in support from Lånekassen. 40% of the loan will be converted into a grant when you complete the school year.
Ål Folk High School follows Lånekassen’s payment plan.
